Who's Coming With Me?

One of my favorite quotes from a movie has to be “Who’s coming with me?” from an iconic scene in the movie “Jerry Maguire”. In the scene, the lead character, Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise), has just lost his job with a major sports management firm because a crisis of conscience. Desperate to hang on to the athletes that he represents, Jerry states that he is going to start his own management firm and asks the people there to come with him. The only person to respond is single mother Dorothy Boyd (Renee Zellweger) who blindly follows Jerry on his new venture. This movie has many memorable quotes, but this one is my favorite because of the passion and desperation in the lead character as well as the willingness of one person to follow. If you have seen this movie, why do you think she followed? If you haven’t seen it, then why do you think anyone would follow another person?

This Sunday we will be beginning a new sermon series called, The Journey Begins. In this series, we will be discussing our journey of faith and how we have chosen to follow Jesus Christ. The very first sermon will explore how we have chosen to follow Jesus because of who we know him to be. In the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 16, Jesus asks his followers, “Who do you say that I am?” I believe he asks this to discover the very reason they have chosen to follow him. So, who do you say Jesus is? Why did you choose to follow? Join us this Sunday for worship at either 8:30 or 10:45 am as we explore this question in greater detail.
