Who Am I That I Should Go?
Have you ever been asked or expected to do something that you feel either unqualified or inadequate for? I experience this in my life often and as a pastor I experience this almost daily. It is tempting to for me to excuse myself from a task or responsibility, but I often ask myself, “If not me, then who?” I believe God has called me to the role of pastor. Because God called me, I also believe God will equip me.
This Sunday, our Pastoral Intern, Soohyun Suh, will be giving the sermon. Her sermon will be based on Exodus 3:1-5, where Moses is managing a flock of sheep belonging to his father-in-law, Jethro, when God appears to Moses in the form of a burning bush. God give Moses a task to deliver the Israelites from the bondage of slavery. Moses feels inadequate and asks God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?" God tells Moses that he will not be alone for God will go with him.
Having spent a little bit of time with Soohyun helping her prepare for her sermon, I am aware that she is nervous. Not only will she be giving a sermon for the first time at Lake Cities, she will also speak in a language that is not her own. My encouragement to her is to know that she too, like Moses, will not be alone because God will be with her. I want to give you the same encouragement.
If you feel you are being called by God to do something, but you are also feeling unqualified or inadequate, please know that if God has called you, God will equip you! Join us for worship this Sunday at either 8:30 or 10:45 AM to hear from Soohyun and also to receive the encouragement you may need to do what God has called you to do.
In God’s grip,
Pastor Chuck Church
