Where Are You Going?
A few weeks ago, my wife and I went to see Dave Matthews Band in concert. It is something that we have done many times because we are huge fans, like as in members of the fan club type of fans. Many of Dave’s songs inspire me and lift me up, much like the one that is the title of this week’s pastor’s blog. In the song “Where Are You Going?” Dave sings about how often in life we are heading down paths that might seem strange or difficult, but that even though he doesn’t consider himself a hero, he will never abandon a person who is the heading down that path. That is the kind of person I aspire to be, because that is the type of person Christ calls us to be.
This Sunday in worship, our scripture verse is the Great Commission from Matthew 28:16-20. In the Great Commission, Jesus instructs the eleven disciples to go and continue his mission of making disciples, but that on this journey they will not be alone because he will forever be with them to the very end. I have to be honest with you, making disciples is not easy and my job as pastor is one that I often find myself questioning whether or not I am doing a good job. Doubt and self-criticism will always be there, but what keeps me going is the body of Christ. Knowing that I am not alone and doing all that I do with people committed to the same mission and vision gives me courage to keep going down that path even if at times it seems strange or difficult.
Join us this Sunday for worship at 8:30 or 10:45 AM as we encourage one another to walk together in both mission and vision.
In God’s grip,
Pastor Chuck Church
