Legacy
What does leaving a legacy look like to you? How will people remember you? Whether you want to or not, you will leave a legacy in life. It is up to you, however, to determine if it will be good or not.
I think often about what kind of legacy I will leave. Recently, I have begun to realize that I have been more concerned with what kind of legacy I will leave rather than with whom I will leave it. What good is a legacy if it isn't with the people you find most important in life.
Consider this story of a successful business man who had passed away. He had created an amazing business and accumulated a fortune. However, at his funeral very few people were present. He had no family there, because in his life he had no time for family. He had no friends there, because in his life he had no time for friends. The only people there were a few business associates who had come in hopes of finding out who would inherit the business. Unfortunately, the recently deceased business man had left the business to no one and the state would take over the distribution of his assets. In his life, he always thought he would someday have time for family and friends, but that time never came.
Who are the most important people in your life? Who might be present at your funeral? Who would you want to be there? I believe that leaving a positive legacy in life is important, but I have begun to understand that it is more important that I leave a positive legacy with the people who are most important to me. Join us this Sunday for worship at 8:30 or 10:45 AM as we continue discussion God’s plan for our life and how part of that plan is creating a legacy.
