When You’re Sure You’re Right

This week, in our Advent Study, we find ourselves in the middle of the Grinch’s story. He sneaks around in the middle of the night stealing Christmas away. When Cindy-Lou Who catches him in the act of stealing her Christmas tree, the Grinch lies with such ease and continues his mischievous work. The Grinch is convinced that what he is doing is going to solve all his problems. Unfortunately, he doesn’t even understand his own problems.

The biggest lie the Grinch told was not to Cindy-Lou Who, but to himself. He had convinced himself that what he was doing was the right thing even though it wasn’t. I think the biggest trap of sin is that we ultimately convince ourselves that our sin is not really bad and we justify it. Proverbs 5:22-23 says, “The wicked will be caught by their own evil acts, grabbed by the ropes of their own sin. Those without instruction will die, misled by their own stupidity.” Eventually, we get so ensnared in the trap of sin that we find getting out extremely difficult, but there is hope! Jesus is that hope! Jesus said, in John 8:31-32, that if we truly my disciples and if we remain faithful to his teaching. Then we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free.

Come join us this Sunday for worship at 8:30 and 10:45 AM as we continue this conversation. Also while you are here you can have breakfast with Santa Claus from 8:30-10:30 AM in our Family Life Center!

In God’s grip,

Pastor Chuck Church
