What If…?

Have you ever wondered what your life would look like if you had made a different decision or something happened differently? Maybe if you had studied harder in school you would have had a better career or if you worked harder at your favorite sport you could have been a professional athlete. Everyone has moments where they ponder the “what ifs”, however looking back to ask “what if” does little to bring positive change to our future. Instead, I believe we should direct that question to future actions and decisions. What if I were to work harder now? What if I were to make wiser and more informed decisions? What if…?

This Sunday we will be beginning a new worship series where we will be asking “What if…?” and considering how a thoughtful process to the decisions and actions we make lead us to the promises of God. In 2 Chronicles 7, Solomon (the heir to the thrown of David) has constructed the Temple in Jerusalem and in a final act of the Temple’s dedication prays seeking a fulfillment of God’s promises. God responds to Solomon to say this, “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”. This theology of retribution is a reminder that God can and will restore us even when we have gone astray. If we are willing to humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face, and turn away from our wicked ways then God can and will set us on right paths.

So, let’s stop dwelling in the past and look toward the future. Let’s set our eyes upon God’s grace and move forward into the promises of God. Join us this Sunday, October 30th, at 8:30 and 10:45 AM as we continue this conversation.

In God’s grip,

Pastor Chuck Church
