Too Much
The last few days here at the church we have been getting ready for a HUGE garage sale and I have come to the realization that many of us have too much stuff. I am surprised by the large volume of stuff we have all accumulated and even more surprised the not even our Family Life Center is big enough to house it all! Having too much of something can often be a problem. If you have too much work to do or too much stress in your life it can be overwhelming. Too much weight or too much cholesterol can be bad for our lives. Too much debt or too many bills can break us financially. Is it ever good to have too much? Yes!
So what kind of too much is good? Well how about too much love or too much compassion? Or too much devotion or too much empathy? This kind of too much is good for the world if it reflects our love for God and others. Our garage sale here at Lake Cities UMC is about having too much. We have too much stuff so we are going to sale it, but that is not the reason for our garage sale. The reason for our garage sale is that we have too much and want to give to our community. The funds from this year’s garage sale will be directed toward our ReEngage Campaign.
The ReEngage campaign is about improving the resources God has given us here at Lake Cities so that we can be a better witness to and better serve our community. With the proceeds of the garage sale we will be continuing the work we have started on the Family Life Center so that we can better use that space for our neighbors. Currently our Family Life Center is a free meeting place for senior citizens, scouts, various youth organizations, local clubs, and many other community groups. We are happy to host our neighbors and want to make this space more welcoming to them.
Many of us know that we have too much stuff, but if we can take what we have and share it with our community I believe we can make a big difference. Come out this weekend (Friday and Saturday) and take part in the Lake Cities UMC Garage Sale!
In God’s grip,
