It’s Cold Outside, But Don't Let Us Have Cold Hearts
As we are experiencing some extremely cold weather in the North Texas area my heart is burdened for those without shelter or a place to stay warm. I have been pondering what we could and should do as a church to help those burdened with the cold weather. Could we turn our Family Life Center into a warming location? Do we make more funds available through our Community Aid Fund to help pay heating bills for those who can’t? Do we need to collect coats, blankets, or other winter wear? I am not sure exactly what we need to do right now, but what I am certain of is that we cannot allow our hearts to become cold as well.
Augustine of Hippo, also known as Saint Augustine, reminds us what love looks like. He says, “What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like.” What does love look like for Lake Cities United Methodist Church? What are our hands doing? Where are our feet going? What will we see and hear? Although it will be extremely cold outside, let’s not let our hearts grow cold as well. Let’s do something! So I turn to you church. What are we going to do? What do you feel called to do?
In God’s grip,
