News and Opportunities
Camp Firelight VBS
Registration for children begins April 1st. Adult registration is open now. Register by May 17th to receive a t-shirt!
Surrounded by water, trees, and rolling hills, Camp Firelight is the perfect location for every Camper’s favorite summer activities! During each assembly session, Campers join first-time camp counselor Sam and Lu (short for Lumen), the lightning bug puppet, and learn to face their fears while trusting in God. Each day, Campers see Counselor Sam face new challenges, from as simple as leading Campers on a hike to as intimidating as meeting a new and wise nature expert. With the help of Lu the Lightning Bug and the Camp Counselor Guidebook, Counselor Sam and our Campers explore timeless Bible stories that show how Old and New Testament Campers trusted God in the face of their own fears and went on to do great things in God’s name.
Through these stories, this program will teach us about people in the Bible who experienced the gift of a trusting relationship with God. In addition, it will teach us to trust that God will go with us, lead the way, share wisdom, to give us peace, and spark joy as we celebrate the good news of Jesus in our own lives and in the lives of others. We will also learn ways we can connect with and put our trust in God whenever we are afraid, challenged, or called to do God’s work in the world and share the Good News of God’s love through Jesus Christ.

Ash Wednesday Service
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. It marks the beginning of a period of reflection and penance. The 6:30PM service will be a traditional service for the whole family. The season is rich because we are invited to dig deep into our faith practices and determine whether we are on the right path to becoming disciples of Jesus Christ. We are encouraged to look at our whole lives and then to lay them alongside the life of Christ and see how we measure up. That is where the scary part comes in.
Being honest with ourselves is a difficult exercise; that’s part of why we need forty days to do it. It takes diligence and discipline and a whole lot of grace to see ourselves as we truly are. In fact, it might be argued that we are incapable of doing this Lenten thing on our own. It is simply beyond our capabilities and certainly beyond our inclinations. The only hope we have is to be gathered up in Jesus.
Brokenness to Glory Lenten Series
Take part in an experiential worship and bible study this Lent season that will follow Jesus in the last days of his earthly mission revealing how in our brokenness God's glory is revealed. There is no cost, no need for materials or preparation before hand, just come and experience the final days of Jesus Christ with us each week throughout Lent. Participants of the Bible Study are invited to have lunch with us since this will be provided each week during the lunch hour (the day of the week is yet to be determined). Please let us know if you plan to attend by email to Pastor Chuck at pastor@lakecitiesumc.org or by phone at 940-321-6100.
Brokenness to Glory is a curriculum written by Pastor Chuck and is not intended for Sunday school use. If your Sunday school class would like to partake in a Lenten Study please contact Pastor Chuck for suggested resources.

Making Room for New - Worship Series
In the Gospel of Mark, there were four individuals who refused to simply pass by a paralyzed man lying on a mat. They recognized that the man needed to reach Jesus, and they were determined to make room for him. While Jesus was teaching in a crowded home where there was no space for the paralyzed man to access Him, these four individuals made room. They made room in their schedules, tapped into their creativity, disregarded their reputation, expended their energy, showed compassion, and had faith. As a result, they lowered the man through the roof, enabling him to connect with Jesus, receive forgiveness for his sins, and experience complete physical healing. All of this was made possible because a few people made room.
Whenever I want to make a positive impact in my life with something new, I must create a space for that new thing. If we are going to make room for new here at Lake Cities UMC in 2024 that entails making room in our heart, prayer life, schedule, energy level, and sometimes even our financial resources. Join us for a new worship series where we will discuss how we are going to make room for a renewed vision, new priorities, and new people in 2024!
January 21st - “Making Room”
January 28th - “Making Room for a Renewed Vision”
February 7th - “Making Room for New Priorties”
February 11th - “Making Room for New People”
