Lewis is putting a handbell ensemble together for an upcoming worship service. Rehearsals will be on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm beginning this week (April 25). This will be a short-term commitment, so you aren't signing the rest of your Wednesday nights away.

Thursday, April 5, 7:00 PM, Maundy Thursday

This year’s Maundy Thursday service will feature sacred readings, contemporary music, powerful symbols and Holy Communion. The service promises to be one of deep meaning and solemn reflection as Christians everywhere prepare for the Passion of Christ. Service will be held in the sanctuary.

This service will reflect on the Passion of Christ through songs and readings. As the service comes to a conclusion, participants will leave in the shadows and quiet of the evening hours. Service will be held in the sanctuary.

Sunday, April 8, 6:30 AM, Easter Sunrise Service

Front parking area; As the service develops, the rising of the sun will bring to light the rising of our Lord and Savior. After the service, the United Methodist Men will be serving a pancake breakfast. Service will be held in the front parking area.

The church will be offering three services on Easter to celebrate the risen Savior! Services will be held in the sanctuary.

Spend spring break learning how to glorify God through singing, liturgical dance, drama, bells, photography, flags, stage building and much more!

Our Worship Arts Camp is designed for kids ages 4-18 years of age and is offered free of charge as a ministry of Lake Cities United Methodist Church

Comparing Pompeii to Today

A 3 week sermon series to wrestle with:

• Why is our nation so divided?  
• Why are people drawing lines in the sand?
• What is the underlying tension of today’s culture?

The sermon series will examine today’s explosive social, political and religious environment.  Will Christians become “frozen in time” with the changes or will they adapt to the change? 
 
“Tremors – A Sign of Things to Come” (Sept. 25, 2011)  As with Pompeii, which had early signs that something big was about to happen, our world also experienced similar signs.
 
“The Eruption – Things Have Changed” (Oct. 2, 2011)  As with Pompeii, when most of its people either ignored or resisted the signs of a major eruption, many in today’s setting have also resisted the signs of change.   History shows that our global community experiences catastrophic shifts in its social structure every 500 years or so. 
 
“After Pompeii – What Next?” (Oct. 9, 2011)  How do we, as Christians, adapt to these changes?  Will we as a faith group be frozen in time or will we work to be a vital part of our global community?

Children's Sunday and Mother's Day

Worship this Sunday will be something special. This Sunday is Children's Sunday. The 3rd, 4th & 5th Graders from our church will be leading worship & our delightful Children's Choir will be singing. Join us as we celebrate the "Good News"! Plus, in honor of Mother's Day, we will have flowers for each of the wonderful ladies of this church.

Holy Week and Easter Sunday at Lake Cities United Methodist Church

Sunday April 17, Palm Sunday; Along with the children’s processional of palms, the service will contain readings and special music that highlight the celebration of the passion of Jesus, beginning with his entrance into Jerusalem. The choir will be performing the cantata, “The Weeping Tree.”

Thursday, April 21, 7:00 pm, Maundy Thursday, Family Life Center; We will have a Seder Foot-washing service commemorating this special illustration of servant ministry given to the disciples by Jesus at the Passover meal. Come and enjoy the retelling of this story, and participate in a symbolic foot washing. The service will be followed by our traditional stew and matza supper. All are invited to this special experience, so bring the whole family.

All are welcome to worship with Lake Cities United Methodist Church. Sunday, April 4, Easter Services, sanctuary; the church will be offering three services on Easter to celebrate the risen Savior at 8:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 11:00a.m.!

The congregation will want to take note that the season of Lent begins on Wednesday, March 9, and lasts over a forty-six day period ending on the eve of Easter. The church will hold an Ash Wednesday service and administer ashes as a part of the evening’s worship experience. Service time will begin at 7:00 PM.

Many people observe this season by fasting or by sacrificing practices considered harmful to the mind or body. For example, it is typical to hear of someone using the season of Lent as a motivational excuse to diet. While “giving up” chocolates or soda drinks may indeed be helpful in losing weight, the intent of Lent is to direct one’s thoughts on God as opposed to focusing on the next snack.

It should be noted that the six Sundays in Lent are not actually a part of Lent, and therefore the Lenten season itself is forty days. Sundays have always been excluded from this fast season since they are considered weekly commemorations of the first Easter.

I hope that you will join me in observing the beginning of Lent with a solemn time of worship and reflection next Wednesday, March 9, 7:00 PM.
