On June 12th, our Sr. High Youth and their adult sponsors will hit the road for this year’s Senior High Mission Trip to Nashville, Tennessee. They will be repairing homes damaged in last spring’s devastating floods. This year we are asking church members to write notes of encouragement to our youth / adults going on the trip.

Below you’ll find a list of the youth and adults participating in the 2011 Sr. High Mission Trip, as of this writing. You may write a note to a specific person or you may write a note to be given to anyone.

A few guidelines are:

• Write as many notes as you would like.
• If you’re writing to a specific person, write the name on the envelope.
• Write: “Youth Missionary” or “Adult Missionary” on all other envelopes.
• Deliver all cards and notes to the church office by Wed, June 8th.

We are getting all our paperwork together and finalizing our list of who is coming with us this year, so if you are planning on going on mission trips, please plan on being here for the meeting.

If you cannot make it, then please contact me before hand, so I can get your packet together.

May 2011 Used Eyeglasses Collection Month

Lake Cities Lions Club is asking for your help during the month of April to collect used eyeglasses for the needy. In 2010, the Texas Lions Eyeglasses Recycling Center distributed over 500,000 pairs of eyeglasses to the needy in the U.S. as well as to distribution centers in the Republic of Ghana, Nigeria, and Brazil.

Lions have been collecting glasses for over 75 years. The used eyeglasses are collected and sent to one of the world-wide distribution centers (ours is in Midland, Texas). At the center, the eyeglasses are cleaned, and using a lensometer, the prescription is read and printed on the outside of the plastic bag holding each pair of glasses. The glasses are boxed, ready to be sent to a clinic in a developing country—or like this year to evacuees who lost or broke their glasses. Children’s glasses are especially needed!

You can donate used glasses at Lake Dallas City Hall and Corinth City Hall, First Security Bank, NorthStar Bank, Wal-Mart, NCTC Corinth Campus, at Laughlin Law & Title, at schools in the Lake Dallas School District, at Lake Cities Medical, and at local area churches (Lake Cities Methodist, Corinth First Baptist, Hope Lutheran, Antioch Christian, and Faith Methodist in Corinth).

Japan Earthquake and Tsumani Emergency Relief

UMCOR is working through relief and church partners in Japan to respond to and provide immediate assistance and long-term rehabilitation. With these partners, UMCOR is meeting the most basic humanitarian needs in northern Japan such as providing clean drinking water, food, cooking and eating supplies, clothing, and fuel for heating.

UMCOR has asked for donations from local churches to help the people of Japan in light of the recent earthquake & tsunami event. You can send donations to the church to help this cause. Mark check or offering envelope with “Pacific Emergency” in order for the bookkeeper to properly channel your donation. 100% of all funds received go to the victims of this disaster. Thank you.

Please join us this Sunday evening, March 6 from 5:00-6:30 pm for this fun all-church event, as the youth hold a service & dessert auction to raise funds for summer mission trips. They will be auctioning off services (babysitting, lawn mowing, cleaning, etc.) to be performed during Spring Break. Dinner will be served.
