The church will host the Chamber of Commerce Breakfast on Wednesday, May 23, beginning at 7:15 AM. The topic for the day will be the “Community Aid Fund” co-sponsored by Lake Cities UMC and the Lake Cities Ministerial Alliance. 

Dorothea Dickey, CAF’s coordinator, will be making the presentation. The CAF is a special fund designed to offer emergency assistance to needy citizens of the Lake Cities area (Lake Dallas, Hickory Creek, Corinth, Shady Shores). It is supported by a number of churches that look to the CAF as a central source of financial assistance. The fund is totally dependent on financial gifts. Once the fund is depleted then nothing is left to offer members of the community. 

Due to the limited financial scope of the CAF, money will not be available for mortgages or rent. Cash is never kept on the premises or given to individuals.

In the Sanctuary on May 4th at 7:30pm, the NCTC College Singers will present a concert featuring a variety of music representing five continents, including vocal jazz favorites born right here in the USA. Admission is free.

On Sundays April 22 and 29, Lake Cities UMC will be offering “Church Scene Investigation”.  This 2-week course is primarily for new and prospective church members, but open to all desiring to learn more about the church.

The focus week 1 is “Who We Are”

• History of The United Methodist Church.
• History of Lake Cities United Methodist church.
• The polity (governance) of the United Methodist Church.
• What United Methodists Believe.

The focus week 2 is “How We Live Out Our Faith”

• Our prayers.
• Our presence.
• Our gifts.
• Our service and witness.

We have numerous enthusiastic presenters, each knowledgeable in the area they will address.  The class meets from 5:00 to 6:00 and then breaks for dinner (either bring your own or partake of the meal provided by the church for a donation of $3 to cover the cost).  Meals will be brought into the classroom with mealtime being used to become better acquainted with each other.  The class will resume sometime around 6:30 and will end around 7:30.

We would love to have you attend this very informative class.  Please fill out a registration form and return it to the church office by April 15, either online or in person.  Should you miss that deadline, you may call Susan Anderson at 940-497-2707.  No one will be turned away, but we need to have an idea of who is coming to prepare for child care as well as meals.

Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry Men

on Friday, March 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm

Robin Good and his band of not-so-merry men are fundraising from the rich to give to the poor! However, when a disagreement arises over what is right and wrong, the friends separate. Can Robin overcome his own hurt, rescue his friends, and restore the town’s peoples hope? Find out in this fun Veggie story where kids learn that there's no hurt too big for God!

Concession stand will open at 6:00 pm, and the movie will start at 6:30 pm. Proceeds from the concession stand will go to Imagine No Malaria. PLUS, one lucky attendee will win their very own copy of "If I Sang a Silly Song", VeggieTales latest music DVD.

As the name describes, this is extending the love and prayers of Jesus Christ and His church outside our building's walls and into the homes, nursing facilities and hospitals where our church family need attention. Occasional visits are made by the 'extended care minister' to simply touch base, spread the love of Christ, perhaps share the Lord's Supper, and provide support to the extent the caregiver is capable. An extended care minister witnesses to Christ's love by their presence and their prayers.

• Deliver eJoice Newsletters (we are going to have hard copies printed for this)

As the economy continues to suffer, the need in our community for assistance becomes greater, and the Food Pantry is turned to for help more and more. Right now the food is flying off the shelves at an ever-increasing rate.

A few days ago I was at the store shopping to fill the shelves. A woman behind me in line heard my explanation that I was buying for a food pantry and the conversation began. The woman had heard of the pantry and appreciated the work it does in the community. She originally said she would plan on shopping that weekend with her kids to help fill the shelves but then came up with a more immediate plan on action. She selected a gift card from the display, handed to the cashier, asked for $100 to be added to the card and then proceeded to hand it directly to me.

What a fabulous display of generosity at such a much-needed time! I and the rest of the Food Pantry Coordinators are ever so thankful for the community support of the pantry and are reminded that we are blessed to be a blessing.
