Footprints Preschool 2012 Summer Camps

Join us for our Footprints Preschool summer camps! These camps are for children ages 2 - 2nd grade. The camps will be help on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 9 am - 2 pm. It is $60 per week, and that includes registration fees, supplies & daily snacks. You can choose from one, or even all three of these dates!

June 25 - 29
July 9 - 13
July 30 - August 3

Coupons for Military Groceries Update

Our Coupon Ministry continues to flourish. We sent another $15,575.77 to RAF Lakenheath this month, making our grand total since the program began last October a whopping $127,980.88!! Please keep those coupons coming, but keep in mind, we can't use anything prior to March 31st, as we must allow time for processing. It would also help if you could clip them, but if not, no worries -- we'll get it done. Thanks for all you do!!!

Please keep in mind that coupons can only be used for six months past their expiration date, so please, no coupons prior to January 1, 2012. It would help if you could clip them, but if not, that's fine as well. Keep up the good work, LCUMC. Your efforts continue to be appreciated by our military families overseas.

Annual Garage Sale - June 8 & 9, 2012

The annual church-wide garage sale is coming soon! The sale will be June 8 & 9.

This event raises money for Youth and Adult Missions and the Community Aid Fund...AND provides great bargains on some beautiful items.

Please bring your donations for the Garage Sale June 3 - 6. The sale will be Friday and Saturday, June 8 & 9. Remember, volunteers get to shop early!

Vacation Bible School is Almost Here!

Vacation Bible School is coming June 18-22. Our theme this year is "Babylon: Daniel's Courage in Captivity." The most exciting change for this year is that VBS will have two separate sessions, so that even more kids can share in this terrific experience.

The "AM session" is from 9:00 to Noon and open to children ages 4 through 5th grade. The "PM session" runs from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and is open to children who have completed kindergarten through 5th grade. Annual Conference is upon us. Opening worship will be at Custer Road UMC in Plano on June 3, 7:00 PM. All United Methodist members and friends are invited to attend this exciting service. A number of people from our church, including our youth group, will be attending. On Monday evening, our choir will be joining other choirs from around the conference, to provide music for the Service of Ordination that will be occurring at St. Andrews UMC in Plano at 7 PM. It is hoped that many of our members will attend this service to support our wonderful choir. Visiting our sister churches can also be a real blessing.

Lake Cities UMC delegates are Susan Anderson and Virgil Aldag. Patricia Gilchrist will be a delegate representing North Central District. Dyan Dietz will be our clergy representative. Our team will represent our interest at Annual Conference during the day meetings on June 4 and 5.

I will not be able to attend Annual Conference this year due to military obligations. I am thankful for our District Superintendent, Dr. Frank Alegria, for granting me permission to miss conference this year. Much of the month of June will be spent on military obligations, however, I have full confidence in our staff to assist with whatever need may come forward. Our church is truly blessed to have so many outstanding individuals eager to serve.

Health Screening - May 30, 2012

The church will host a health screening opportunity for interested individuals on Wednesday, May 30, in the Family Life Center. Scan Specialists is the company that will be offering the screening in a variety of packages. The church has worked with Scan Specialists over the past two years and has enjoyed a cooperative relationship. Several of our members have benefitted from the screening service. A variety of screenings are available but the most popular packages are as follows:

Full Preventive Pkg. (9 screenings) $189
Abdominal Pkg. (5 screenings) $160
Vascular Pkg. (4 screenings) $145

“Reading of the Names” Worship Service -- May 27, 10:30 AM

his Sunday, May 27, the church will be observing a time of Reading of the Names. Reading of the Names is a solemn time in which fallen service members from Texas will be remembered and honored. A member of the congregation will hold the name of a fallen member and exit the sanctuary once their name is read. The Reading of the Names visibly brings to light the sacrifices of our service members. Due to the holiday weekend, worship services will only be held at 8:30 and 10:30. The Reading of the Names will be observed during the 10:30 service only. All services will be in the sanctuary. Children and Youth Sunday School classes will not be meeting on this day. Adult Sunday School Classes are optional. Casual dress is recommended for those attending the 10:30 service, since we will be having a picnic lunch.

The church-wide picnic will be held after the 10:30 service. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be provided. If your last name begins with A-P, please bring a side dish. If your last name begins with Q-Z, please bring a dessert.

Footprints is offering 3 exciting OLYMPIC summer camps!

Each week is full of different age appropriate games and challenges that teach your child about the Olympics!

Fun and educational for all ages
Age appropriate curriculum
Classes are taught by current Footprints teachers.

DATES: June 25th, July 9th, and July 30th
TIME: M, W, F 9am-2pm
AGES: 2 yrs. - 2nd grade (must have completed 2nd grade)

Choir Notes - May 18, 2012

Senior Recognition - Sunday, May 20th

On Sunday May 20th, we will recognize our graduating high school Seniors during Worship, as well as hold a reception in their honor after the 11AM service in the Family Life Center.

The Seniors will have displays set up with information about themselves, their accomplishments so far, and their upcoming ambitions.

We hope that you will be sure to show them your support with your presence and kind words as they are set to begin a new chapter in life.

Chamber of Commerce Breakfast - May 23, 7:15 AM

The church will host the Chamber of Commerce Breakfast on Wednesday, May 23, beginning at 7:15 AM. The topic for the day will be the “Community Aid Fund” co-sponsored by Lake Cities UMC and the Lake Cities Ministerial Alliance.

Dorothea Dickey, CAF’s coordinator, will be making the presentation. The CAF is a special fund designed to offer emergency assistance to needy citizens of the Lake Cities area (Lake Dallas, Hickory Creek, Corinth, Shady Shores). It is supported by a number of churches that look to the CAF as a central source of financial assistance. The fund is totally dependent on financial gifts. Once the fund is depleted then nothing is left to offer members of the community.

Due to the limited financial scope of the CAF, money will not be available for mortgages or rent. Cash is never kept on the premises or given to individuals.

Courageous Study Group

The Courageous Sermon Series concludes with a 4-week study, beginning Sunday, May 20th and ending Sunday June 10th. If you are interested, please be sure to indicate your preferred meeting time on the Connection Cards provided in your Sunday bulletin. One response is all that is needed.

UMW Bake Sale - May 13th, 2012

UMW will hold their Bake Sale on Sunday, May 13th, which is Mother’s Day.

Get Mom a special treat on her day. Of course, if you would like to request special baked goods; red velvet cake, blackberry or blueberry pie, Martha’s banana pudding, etc., just call Barbara Coy at 940-367-0845 (after 6 pm please) and let her know.

The proceeds from the UMW Bake Sale go to help support missions.
